Five Glorious Sea Days

We have been spent the last 5 days sailing across the Pacific Ocean and will land in Kona, Hawaii tomorrow. There is something absolutely glorious about these long stretches of sea days, especially with a private cabana (more on cabana life later).
The Koningsdam has done an excellent job keeping us busy with lots of daily activity choices. Add those to the special activities from the online cruise groups who met onboard and I have been a busy busy girl with meeting and greetings, happy hour cocktails, casino slot pulls, and a Champaign get together on the first formal night. I even managed a win in the Casino which will promptly be distributed as additional tips to this AMAZING crew!!

These long cruises are considered “legendary voyages” and Holland America adds lots of special events to the schedule. For the music lovers there are three sets of Classical music in the afternoon, a ballroom dance session before dinner, a cocktail trio in the early evening and then the music walk at night.
Music walk on the Pinnacle class ships consist of billboard onboard (piano bar), Rolling Stones Rock Room, and BBKings blues club. I have closed Rolling Stones every night so far this cruise. If you add the 22 nights we closed Rolling Stones rock room on the Oosterdam Antartica cruise last month, I must be approaching a HaL record for RSRR locality. The Rolling Stones rock room is really really good for those of us who like rock music.
There are Hawaiian ambassadors onboard who have entertained us with daily hula and ukulele lessons. We’ve made leis and Kukui nut necklaces, painted Hawaiian flowers in art class, and each evening the ambassadors have entertained us with sunset hour honoring Hawaiian music and culture in the crows nest (a panoramic viewing room on the top deck).
In Holland America style there have been daily lectures offered on the world stage, cooking classes, wine tastings, flower arranging, line dance class, etc…. Of course, I’ve carved out some time for reading and napping too. It’s all part of the truly decadent lifestyle of cruising.

For those who may be worried that sea days get boring, it’s noon and I have already enjoyed a chocolate croissant with a cafe latte in my private cabana, participated in a ship sponsored 5k (walking not running due to the nature of the promenade), a line dance class at the lido (everyday at 10am), and my cabana boy is about to deliver some yummy sushi for lunch.

If interested, I have a separate blog thread with all the daily programs so you can get a feel for all that is offered over the 35 nights. I also have a blog feed for daily menus in the main dining room for the foodies among us. Here is todays schedule as a sample…

Congrats on your win! Love sea days!
