On the way back from the Galapagos, it is always recommended to spend an extra night in Quito. The flights out of Galapagos are often delayed or cancelled so having a buffer night is a good idea.
The flight from Galapagos to Quito is about 5 hours with a 45 minute stop in Guiaquil to gas up (you don't leave the plane). The flight from Quito home (with a stop in Atlanta) was 9 hours so it was nice to break this up a bit with an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn.
I messaged the Holiday Inn asking where to pick up the shuttle and instead they sent a representative to meet us at baggage claim with my name on poster!! That is always a nice touch when flying into countries where English isn't the native language. The shuttle to/from the hotel was complimentary and about 10 minutes. The service at the hotel was also top of the line. I would have no hesitation staying here again, or recommending it to others. A really really nice airport hotel where service is excellent.

The international lounge in Quito Airport is open 24 hours and has a lovely selection of food and drink. There was even a chef making fresh grilled pannini. A nice touch for an airport lounge. There are also showers if you are coming straight from the Galapagos. Be sure to give yourself the full 3 hours to check in. Things were moving very very slowly.

A word of warning on your return flight to the USA. Delta moved our flights so we only had a 1.5 hour layover in Atlanta. Since it was the first stop in the states we needed to go through immigration (super fast with the eye scan) and then pick up our luggage (it took some time for the luggage to arrive), go thru immigration, recheck the luggage, go thru another TSA checkpoint, and then board the train to get to a domestic gate. We made it because our flight arrived at 5:00 am (the first flight of the day). If you flight is arriving later in the day I Highly recommend a couple hour lay over in Atlanta.
