Gatsby Party 2026

A legendary cruise is a special voyage from Holland America where they add lots of nice little touches along the way. These voyages are typically over 30 nights long and come with a price tag to match, so lots of time for HAL to make us special.
We’ve already received nice insulated coffee mugs and a beautiful legendary cruise canvas bag as gifts, but HAL also puts on additional parties and food events throughout the cruise. I’ll be adding as the voyage progresses.
Typically legendary cruises have 3-5 themed evening parties. The Orange party is a famous HAL tradition and is best attended so be sure to pack something orange to wear. Other parties are well attended but without as much dressing up. Let’s face it, if Hal really wanted dress up participation they would have emailed us a list of events and suggested attire (like they did the last two years).
Our first party is the gatsby party held this evening (third night of the 35 night cruise). Unlike the last two years, this Gatsby party seems VERY well organized. The Gatsby Gazette was delivered to our room last night in preparation.
The party started at 8:00 with the dam band playing swing. The lido was all decked out in glitter and gold. There was a fortune teller who told me that I should follow my dreams (as if), and the suspect characters from the gazette were around for interviewing. I never did quite understand what we were doing with the cards they were handing out and some of the staged robbery seemed a bit confusing (in fairness I should have read the gazette), but overall this wasn’t your mothers HAL. For one, it lasted until 11:00!! There was high energy last night and even thought if I didn’t guess the correct suspect and never did find the speakeasy).
